Self Portrait…

This is a picture that I used last spring for my Visual Communication class. The assignment was to create a self portrait of yourself without exposing your face. I designed this picture in order to portray a few different aspects of my life. The obvious, being basketball. I have played basketball my entire life, and I now play for Winona State on the Warrior Women’s Team! This is shown by the Warrior practice jersey in the back with the number 13 on it. That has been my number since I was in 5th grade. Basketball has always been a HUGE passion on mine, as well as a large part of my life. This is the one area of my life that is the most obvious to others, and this is what many people identify me with. The other themes illustrated in this picture aren’t as obvious. I made sure to show my tattoo on my foot because it says “Faith” which is another area in my life that is very important to me. Although this may not be as obvious to the general public, I’m hoping that one day is does become very obvious because I am not ashamed of it. I would love for people to know what I’m all about! The last main theme in this picture is the ring on my finger. No, I am not married or engaged, but the ring was given to me by my father when I was 16-years-old. I have worn it every single day since he’s given it to me. It symbolizes the role that family plays in my life. Especially my dad; you could say that I am a HUGE Daddy’s Girl! I love my dad more than anything in the world, as well as my mom and my brother and sister. I thought that by including the ring, it was a subtle way to incorporate that area of my life into my picture, in order to truly make it a Self Portrait of me!
