This fountain is located next to the playground by Lake Winona. I do not know this little boy, but he happened to be playing at the park that day and his grandmother gave me permission to include him in my photos.

Rectangles

No Trespassing (2008) This picture was taken in Downtown St. Paul last weekend. I decided it is a perfect example of this element because of the continuous repetition of rectangles throughout the frame.

No Trespassing (2008) This picture was taken in Downtown St. Paul last weekend. I decided it is a perfect example of this element because of the continuous repetition of rectangles throughout the frame. Not only is the door and all of the windows rectangular, but so is the yellow 'no trespassing' sign, and all of the bricks that surround the door. I purposely cropped the frame to be an obvious rectangle as well just to play off of that theme.

Triangles

Looking Upward (2008) This picture was taken in the woods in my backyard last week. The three trees form three obvious points of a triangle, and as the eye follows them upward into the distance, the point get closer and closer to each other. The triangle isn't as obvious until you let the eye do the work for you.

Focus

Focus on Beauty (2008) I took this picture last weekend of some flowers in my mother's garden. They were the only two of this particular type that were still alive and vibrant yellow. I decided to focus on the beauty in these flowers, while leaving the dead leaves in the back out of focus in order to really bring out its beauty.

Several Points

Freedom in the Air (2008) This picture was also taken last week at Veteran's Park here in Winona. I chose this picture to demonstrate 'several points' because the flags are the obvious subjects in the photo, and they form a circle that your eye follows around.

I chose this photo to demonstrate 'several points' because the flags are the obvious subjects in the frame. They form a circle that causes your eye to move around them. I also like how the two memorials at the bottom kind of serve as a frame within a frame for the shot.

Single Point

Obstruction of Beauty (2008) I came across this cone laying in a fountain at a park near my house last week. I found it very odd that it was sitting in the water like it was, so I decided to use it as one of my photographic element demonstrations. This demonstrate a "single-point" because that bright orange demands the eye and is clearly the subject of the picture. I made sure to place out of the center of the frame, using Rule of Thirds.
